CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
The main aim of the training is to enhance participants’ fundamental and advance knowledge about offshore conventional and new energies. Also, soft skills like communication management skills. The technical aspects include the global picture of the new energies technologies, from the environment to the offshore renewable energy systems, the support structures for new energies, pipelines and auxiliary systems, fabrication, installation and lastly the structural integrity and maintenance. Hence the course will equip the participants with the required skills to scale-up a career in the offshore new energies, which also to support the global and national agenda in supplying clean and renewable energies..
Introduction to Marine renewable energy systems:
Design of line systems, pipelines, and auxiliary systems for new energy facilities:
Structural integrity of assets:
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, the participants should be able:
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
1. Ts Dr Ng Cheng Yee (UTP)
Dr Ng Cheng Yee received her PhD in Civil Engineering (Offshore structures) from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in 2014, MSc in Civil Engineering (Offshore Structures) in 2010 and BEng in Civil Engineering in 2007 from the same university. She is a member of Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), UK, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM). She’s experts in offshore engineering, floating offshore structures, Offshore renewable energy, wave-structure interaction, wave hydrodynamics & directional waves.
2. Associate Professor Ir Dr Zahiraniza Mustaffa (UTP)
Dr. Zahiraniza Mustaffa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) for nearly 15 years. She obtained her PhD majoring in Pipeline Reliability from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands (2011), Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering, from the University of Alberta, Canada (2003) and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Civil Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2000).
In terms of research, Dr. Zahira specializes in the field of pipeline engineering as well as hydraulic engineering, covering the aspects of urban hydraulics and probabilistic structural designs. Her research capability in the pipeline engineering field is portrayed through the cumulative research grant values of over RM 2 mil. secured from various international, national and consultancy resources. Dr. Zahira received numerous research product awards obtained through various competitions at international and national exhibitions since 2014. Her products have been submitted for intellectual properties submissions through patent, industrial designs as well as copyrights.
In terms of product commercialization, she has developed a Mobile Apps software by the name of BigPipes.Apps, a commercialized software for industries or any interested parties for the assessment of corroded pipelines integrated with corrosion prediction, with main algorithm applied using the knowledge of probabilistic approaches. The product is able to optimized the assessment methods which in return prone to cost saving.
In the field of flood management and control, she has developed another two products, namely FLO-LOW and CURBVIOUS. FLO-LOW is a smart integrated system developed through the use of Internet-of-Things, for the safety of vehicle from being washed away due to its instabilities in floodwaters. The system integrates knowledge of hydrodynamics of floodwaters at low-lying roads and later translated into an online decision-making Apps for the benefits of roadway users. CURBVIOUS is a curb newly fabricated using pervious concrete, developed as part of the road accessories in reducing urban street flooding. The product is capable to intercept excess surface runoff on the street which usually leads to urban street flooding, when not managed properly. CURBVIOUS has the potential to reduce the impact of flash flood in terms of managing and mitigating floods.
3. Dr Montasir Osman Ahmed Ali (UTP)
Dr Montasir is currently a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). At present, he is the custodian of UTP Offshore Laboratory. His areas of specialization are hydrodynamics of floating offshore platforms and its Station keeping Systems including numerical modelling and physical model testing. Also, he is looking into renewable energy, particularly hydrodynamic and aerodynamic stability of floating wind turbines. He provided several trainings on the hydrodynamics of offshore structures to the industry and academia. Dr Montasir published more than 30 articles in high reputational journals and conferences. He spent more than seven years in structural engineering industry (contractor and consultancy companies) prior joining academia. Dr Montasir obtained his Master’s degree in structural engineering and PhD in Civil Engineering (Offshore Structures).
4. Ir Dr Mubarak Wahab (UTP)
Dr. Mubarak Wahab, P.E, PhD, is a multifaceted, self-driven and highly motivated engineer with over 20 years of experience, a master’s degree in Structural Engineering from University of Melbourne, Australia and a PhD degree from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. In the 20 years of experience, 6 solid years of progressively responsible supervisory, managerial and business development on construction and design projects. Academic since 2007, with research interest into structures and materials; onshore and offshore structure steel: integrity and reliability domain. To date has completed and currently managing numerous research projects (valued at RM1 Million) and industry projects (Valued at RM 80 Million) and published more than 40 research papers
