CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Energy industry is known for its volatility. Several factors contribute to this volatility are price fluctuations, geopolitical instability, technological advances, regulatory changes, climate and weather events, global economic conditions, supply chain vulnerabilities, energy transition and policy uncertainty as well as market speculation.

Scenario planning in the energy industry is a strategic decision-making process that involves creating and analyzing different plausible future scenarios to prepare for uncertainty and changes in the energy landscape. This approach enables energy companies, policymakers, and stakeholders to anticipate potential developments, challenges, and opportunities, and to develop strategies that are robust and adaptable across a range of potential future conditions.

This course offers participants a unique opportunity to master the art of anticipating the future, making informed decisions, and driving success in uncertain industries such as the energy industry. Throughout the course, participants will engage in interactive exercises, examine case studies, and participate in simulations to sharpen their scenario-planning skills.

The course applies Scenario Manager, a feature in Excel 365, as its main tool for scenario analysis. Excel's Scenario Manager provides a simple and intuitive interface, making it accessible to a wide range of users, from beginners to advanced spreadsheet users. It also allows participants to create and compare multiple scenarios quickly and efficiently, enabling them to analyze various what-if situations in a limited time. Participants can define different input values for various scenarios, such as sales projections, costs, interest rates, or any other variables that impact their analysis. Finally, the Scenario Manager generates summary reports that present the results of each scenario in a clear and organized format, helping individuals visualize the potential outcomes.

In essence, this Scenario Planning course empowers participants to become proactive, strategic thinkers who are well-equipped to make robust decisions in a dynamic organization. Ultimately, it enables organization in the energy industry to thrive by transforming uncertainty into opportunity and complexity into clarity.
