CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
This training session will introduce participants to the concepts underpinning the integration of GIS spatial analytics with emerging digitalization concepts, particularly Machine Learning algorithms for enhanced decision making. The fundamentals of GIS will be discussed and the process of producing predictive maps showing different categories of hazard susceptibility i.e. very low, low, moderate, high and very high will be discussed. The IR 4.0. Machine learning modelling approach will also be compared with the conventional MCDM approach for accuracy evaluation.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Dr. Abdul-Lateef Balogun (UTP)
Dr. Abdul-Lateef Balogun received his B.Sc. degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, his M.Sc. degree in Geoinformatics from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia and his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (Geoinformatics) from the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia. He received the best student award in his M.Sc. programme and was a recipient of the UTP graduate assistantship funding for doctoral study from 2010 to 2014. Dr Balogun won an excellent (best) paper award at the international conference on future environment and energy, Singapore in 2012, was the winner of the Golden Key International Honor Society (GKI) essay writing competition, UTM in 2008 and second runner-up in the national quiz for public institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, 2009. He is currently a faculty member at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and coordinator of UTP’s Geospatial Analysis and Modelling Research (GAMR) Laboratory. He has over 10 years of teaching, research, consultancy, and industrial experience and has authored papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Handbook of Extreme Weather and Climate Events (Springer). He specializes in the application of geospatial and machine learning techniques in geo-hazard management, smart and sustainable cities, disaster management and risk reduction, and climate change modelling and adaptation.
