OUR TRAINERS

1. Professor Dr Shamsul Rahman Mohamed Kutty (UTP)

Professor Dr Shamsul Rahman Mohamed Kutty is presently a lecturer in Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, received his PhD degree from the University of Memphis, TN, USA.   He has worked with the University of PETRONAS for more than 14 years. He is popularly known as Dr. Shark due to his various involvement in theatre. Nevertheless, throughout the years, he has been involved in research and consultancies related to wastewater treatment, biological as well as physical chemical.  Over the years, he has also been invited to give talks locally and overseas on wastewater treatment. He has obtained several research grants from MOE under ERGS, FRGS and PRGS.

2. Dr Lavania Baloo (UTP)

Dr Lavania Baloo is a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). She obtained B.Sc. (Industrial Biology) and M. Eng (Environmental Management) degrees from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and her PhD specialization is in Environmental Engineering. Dr Lavania’s research has primary focused on microbiology in environmental engineering and in water purification. She has done several studies involving biological wastewater treatment and develop agricultural waste based activated carbon using empty fruit bunch and seaweed biomass for wastewater treatment. She has in-depth skills in water quality analysis, such as the water quality index and marine water quality standard parameters that involved. She is also a member of Malaysian Water Association (MWA) professional body and has published several scientific papers in international journals.

3. Dr Noorfidza Yub Harun (UTP)

Dr Noorfidza academic qualification, 2017, PhD in Mechanical Engineering by University of New Brusnwick, 2011, MSc in Forest Engineering by University of New Brunswick, 2012, Diploma in University Teaching by University of New Brusnwick, 2001, MSc in Environmental Energy Engineering by University of Sheffield and 1992, BEng in Chemical and Process Engineering by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr Noorfidza research and specialization in Waste-to-green adsorbent. Waste-to-fuel. Blending of materials for bio-composite adsorbent. Industrial waste treatment for fuel, chemicals, and ashes.

4. Dr. Husna Takaijuddin  (UTP)

Dr Husna Takaijudin current position as Senior Lecturer/Researcher, at Centre for Urban Resource Sustainability (CUReS) Institute of Sustainable Building (ISB), UTP. She had 1 year industrial experience with Perunding Amarbina Sdn. Bhd. Dr Husna academic qualification, Diploma in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Degree in Civil Engineering (Hons) from University of Sheffield, Master in Water Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia and PhD in Urban Drainage Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Urban Stormwater Management, Water Resources Engineering and Irrigation System Design is the area of expertise for her. She had professional certificate as Chartered Engineer (IMarEst).

5. Dr Muhammad Rashid Shamsuddin (UTP)

Prior to teaching, Dr Shamsuddin worked in various engineering industries in the Middle East, Malaysia and New Zealand in 1) O&G specializing in pipeline construction, pressure testing and flushing as well as waste water treatment 2) Plant design, construction, M&E installation and commissioning 3) RnD in biomaterials and waste conversion technology and 4) Production and optimization process in timber industry. He graduated with a PhD degree in Materials and Processing from theUniversity of Waikato, New Zealand. His PhD research focused onrecovering protein from abattoir waste water using clay adsorption. Novelty of this work lies on the dual purpose of the process where clay surface modification and waste water treatment can be done simultaneously. The modified clay was successfully utilized as a reinforcement material in bio- based polymer while the waste water required less treatment prior to disposal. The research provides an avenue for abattoir plants to save coston the waste water treatment and produce a value-added product from what is essentially a waste. As an academic, he currently involves actively in lecturing and RnD inChemical Engineering Department. His teaching subjects include Thermodynamics, Materials Science & Engineering, Environmental Chemical Engineering, Energy & Plant Utilities System, HSE and Workplace Safety in Malaysia. His active consultancy and research project include biogas and biofertilizer from waste sources, composting Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) waste of palm oil into high value fertilizer, geopolymer as green material and synthesis of various adsorbents for waste water treatment.
