COURSE SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
One of the most crucial decisions facing a financial manager is the choice of which investments the corporation should undertake. Making the wrong decision can be costly.
The two-day course is designed to cater to the needs of those from finance and non-finance background who are interested in enhancing their understanding of the various techniques (rules) available for use to make the decision on undertaking an investment (project). The course will further expose participants in evaluating the available projects via-a-vis the capital cost incorporating the risk, required rate of return and discounted cash flow towards achieving ‘net present value’ return.
In order to accommodate participants from various backgrounds, no prior knowledge of corporate finance will be assumed. A refresher on the basic finance principles and concepts will be delivered.

1. Associate Professor Dr Lai Fong Woon
He has been teaching in higher learning institutions since 1998. Prior to joining education line, Dr. Lai has worked in two stock broking companies in Malaysia. He held an Investment Advisor’s Representative License issued by the Malaysian Securities Commission in 1997. He was also an external writer for licensing examinations conducted by an industry authority in the country.
Dr. Lai has also published management books, indexed journals and presented in local and international conferences his research papers in the areas of corporate finance, strategy, risk management, socio-economic analysis and higher education research. Dr. Lai’s past and present professional body memberships include the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance, Malaysian Institute of Management, Professional Risk Managers International Association and Malaysian Association of Risk and Insurance Management.
