INTRODUCTION
By the end of this course, participants should have a clear understanding of granitic soils, their geological attributes, and their role in hosting REEs. It will also help to develop a deep understanding of the geological processes that lead to the formation of granitic soils, the mineralogical characteristics of these soils, and the specific geological contexts that favor the occurrence of REEs within granitic soil environments.
Through this course the participants will also have a solid understanding of the prospecting techniques used to identify granitic soils with high potential for REE occurrences. They should be able to assess geological and geochemical data, interpret results from various surveys, and apply their knowledge to the selection of promising target areas for further exploration and mining activities.
They should also appreciate the significance of REEs in various industries and recognize the unique geological conditions that make granitic soils a promising target for REE exploration and mining. This foundation will be essential for the subsequent knowledge that delve into prospecting, extraction, and environmental considerations in granitic soil environments.

1. Dr. Numair Ahmed Siddiqui (UTP)
Dr Numair Ahmed Siddiqui is a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia), a certified well Petroleum Geosciences. Before joining UTP, he served in industrial at TOTAL E & P Brunei Darussalam and Oil & Gas Company Limited (OGDCL) Pakistan. Dr Numair Ahmed Siddiqui holds his PhD in Petroleum Geosciences by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in 2016, MsC in Petroleum Geosciences by Universiti Brunei Darussalam and his Degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering by BUIT Engineering and Technology, Pakistan in 2008. His primary interest areas include Reservoir Sedimentology, Modelling, Geomorphology, Sequence Stratigraphy. He also member of Geological Society of Malaysia
2. Ts Dr. Nisar Ahmed (UTP)
Dr Nisar Ahmed is a researcher at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia), a certified Geoscientist. Dr Nisar Ahmed holds his PhD in Petroleum Geosciences by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in 2021, MSc in Petroleum Geosciences by King Saud University, Saudi Arabia and his Degree in Petroleum Geosciences by University of the Punjab, Pakistan in 2010. His primary interest areas include Reservoir Sedimentology, Petroleum Geology, Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Sequence Stratigraphy, Geological Mapping. He also member of Geological Society of Malaysia
3. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syahrir Ridha (UTP)
Dr Syahrir Ridha is an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). Currently he holds position as Director for the Institute of Hydrocarbon Recovery (IHR). In his position, he oversees 4 (four) Research Centres related to Upstream activities, consisting of Centre for Subsurface Imaging (CSI), Centre of Excellence for Enhanced Oil Recovery (COREOR), South East Asia Carbonate & Clastic Research Lab (SEACaRL), and Shale Gas Research Group (SGRG). Before this role, he was a Programme Manager for MSc in Drilling Engineering. He has been with the organization for the last 8 years. He is a Petroleum Engineering by background and his research interest includes drilling technology, well cementing and drilling fluids. He has secured several national and international research projects as principal investigator. He has delivered several professional short courses at both National and International levels. Ridha has authored and co-authored more than 65 technical papers. He holds a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering from UTP. Ridha hold a Chartered Petroleum Engineer (CEng) from United Kingdom Engineering Council through Energy Institute. He also a member of Society of Petroleum Engineer (SPE).
