CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

The quantitative risk assessment (QRA) is conducted to measure the likelihood and consequences of hazardous events and expressing the results quantitatively as a risk to people, assets, environment, and businesses. The QRA analyse complex consequences, i.e. the possible flammable, explosive or/and toxic effects, from discharges/ releases of liquids and/or vapours, by considering the local population and weather conditions, in order to quantify the associated risk. In QRA, a large variety of complexities can be found, from simple and deterministic to very extensive and stochastic. This 4-days course intends to introduce concept, methods, and tools needed to conduct risk assessment for new, operational, and expansion of major hazard installations. This course will provide the theory and hands-on training related to quantitative risk assessment for conformance to regulations and assurance of safer industrial environment.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Introduction to risk assessment and management
  • Incident scenario and frequency assessment
  • Source and dispersion models.
  • Consequence assessment
  • Risk analysis and ALARP demonstration.
  • Risk reduction and communication.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the principles of QRA.
  • Perform QRA to support decision making regarding the tolerability of the risk of catastrophic accidents.
  • Apply appropriate risk reduction strategies to prevent and control risk.
  • Conduct consequence analysis (for toxic release, fire, and explosion).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • QHSE Officers and Managers
  • Operations, Safety and Executive Engineers - Process, Safety, and Mechanical
  • PSM Implementation Team Members
  • Compliance Auditors
  • Consultants, Lecturers, and Researchers
  • HSE and Process Safety Senior Technicians
  • Individuals who are interested in QRA.
