CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
There is crucial requirement of light weight structural material in oil and gas, automotive, aerospace, marine, energy sector and sports. The application of these materials can reduce fuel consumption resulting a very positive impact on environment and cost saving. Fiber reinforced polymer composites are the best example of these materials. These polymer composites (thermoset and thermoplastics) are fabricated using various techniques. Testing of physical and mechanical properties of these materials also somehow different from traditional metallic materials. In this course, basic understanding of polymer composites, differentiation of thermoplastics and thermoset polymer, properties and cost saving compared to carbon steel. This short course will discuss fabrication techniques used for thermoplastics and thermoset composites and industrial applications of the composites. A comprehensive procedure for mechanical and physical testing will be discussed. Contents will also address, in-service inspection and maintenance, designing with polymer composites, case studies and hand-on experience are arranged to enhance the knowledge and skill of participants. The knowledge provided on fiber reinforced polymer composites will be very helpful for engineers, technicians, consultants, and researcher for future advancement in industries.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
