COURSE SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
When asked to deliver any form of public oral presentations, many freeze at the thought. While some may be excited, others may pale at just the mere mention of speaking in front of an audience. This challenge becomes more complex when pitching in a technologically advanced environment, where there is limited attention available. Presenters are faced with noise, distraction and all forms of obligations which hinders one from presenting in a concise, logical and structured manner. In this course, you will learn how to apply the Three Golden Rules, the “10/20/30 Rule for Powerpoint Presentation” and “Pitching Presentations in formal and informal settings”. Presenters will learn the art of utilizing visual aids, infographics and analogies to capture audience attention. Presenters need to analyze their audience and understand what elements are required to present effectively and competently to the audience in either formal or informal settings. This course aims to empower presenters to pitch and deliver their presentations.

1. Dr Ena Bhattacharyya (UTP)
Dr Ena Bhattacharyya is a Senior Language and Communication lecturer with the Language Unit of the Management and Humanities Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. She obtained her Doctorate in Philosophy in Applied Linguistics (English for Specific Purposes) from University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. She has been the Head of the English Language Department in Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur. She was an examiner for the public English Oral and Written Examinations for secondary schools both in East and West Malaysia. She co-authored a book entitled, “New Media Communication Skills for Engineers and IT Professionals” and is an invited Editor for PERTANIKA Journal and Section Editor (Language and Communication) for PLATFORM, UTP. Her research interests include Applied Linguistics, Sustainable Human Capital Development, Graduate Employability, Employability Skills and Work Readiness, Communicative Competence, Oral Communication, Engineering Education and TESL.
Subarna Sivapalan, PhD is a senior academic and researcher at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. She is presently the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the Deputy Head of the Centre for Social Innovation, Institute for Self-Sustainable Building. Subarna has published widely in higher education teaching and learning, and is passionate about sustainability communication.
