CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This course is intended to provide an overview of performing composite analysis and optimization using Altair Finite Element Programs. The software program for preprocessing (model building) is HyperMesh, for Postprocessing (results visualization) HyperView is used; analysis and optimization are based on OptiStruct.

This is a theoretical and practical course that covers all design steps for systems manufactured with composite materials using an automated optimization technique developed inside HyperWorks. The content on finite element modeling includes composite pre-procesing, material types, materials and element orientation, types of laminates in Hypermesh and various composite modeling methods and optimization techniques. In addition, composite post-processing is explained.

  • Review on basics of composite modeling (Composite pre-processing, material types, materials and element orientation, types of laminate in Hypermesh, various composite modelling methods & their tutorials)
  • Composite structures optimizations
  • Composite post-processing



OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Build composite structures (pre-processing) using Altair HyperMesh
  • Conduct analysis on composite structures using Altair OptiStruct
  • Employ different composite optimization techniques
  • Visualize results (post-processing) using Altair HyperView

Dr. Nabihah Sallih (UTP)

Dr. Nabihah Sallih is a lecturer at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). She completed her Bachelor of Engineering (1st class honours) at The University of Auckland, New Zealand and obtained her PhD from the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials, The University of Auckland in 2016. She is one of the technical experts in Altair-UTP Centre of Excellence and key figure in Surface Science and Materials (SSMAT) Nexus. Her areas of research interest include polymeric-based composites and vibration of piping using both experimentation and computational modeling.
