CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
To maximize the project profit, oil and gas companies are looking into extending the life of the offshore structures beyond its design life. Hence, it is crucial to consider this extension during the design stage. This 4-days course covers analysis and design of offshore platforms and risk, reliability and integrity of the platforms. The course is designed in such a way that at the end of the lectures, the participants will have a broad understanding on the behaviour of offshore structures under various environmental loading, structural integrity and risk analysis. The content includes evaluation of the environmental loading (1st and 2nd order) acting on offshore platforms, mooring line analysis for floaters, theories of physical modelling at wave basins, structural integrity, risk and reliability, pushover analysis and decommissioning.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
1. Dr. Riaz Khan (PETRONAS)
Dr. Riaz Khan is a chartered engineer (UK) with over twenty-five (25) years of academic and industrial experience in the civil engineering discipline. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Portsmouth, UK, Masters’ degree (with Distinction) in Structural Engineering and Doctorate in Offshore Structural Engineering from London South Bank University, UK. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Dr Khan has particular expertise in the structural integrity management of energy-related infrastructure and has also assumed responsible positions, leading engineering teams, on a variety of projects ranging from major offshore and onshore field developments. He also has key expertize in a variety of operating regions including the Gulf of Mexico, Latin America, Asia and the Far East. Dr. Khan has also developed innovative web-based integrity software products that have been widely adopted by industry and developed a suite of joint flexibility (RK-LJF) equations for the performance of tubular joints of fixed offshore structures. Dr Khan has served as a Committee Chair of the ISO 19901-9 Recommended Practice for the Structural Integrity Management of Fixed Offshore Structures and international member of the API RP SC2.
2. Dr Montasir Osman
Ahmed Ali (UTP)
Dr Montasir is currently a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). At present, he is the custodian of UTP Offshore Laboratory. His areas of specialization are hydrodynamics of floating offshore platforms and its Station keeping Systems including numerical modelling and physical model testing. Also, he is looking into renewable energy, particularly hydrodynamic and aerodynamic stability of floating wind turbines. He provided several trainings on the hydrodynamics of offshore structures to the industry and academia. Dr Montasir published more than 30 articles in high reputational journals and conferences. He spent more than seven years in structural engineering industry (contractor and consultancy companies) prior joining academia. Dr Montasir obtained his Master’s degree in structural engineering and PhD in Civil Engineering (Offshore Structures).
3. Dr. Mubarak Wahab (UTP)
Dr. Mubarak Wahab, P.E, PhD, is a multifaceted, self-driven and highly motivated engineer with over 20 years of experience, a master’s degree in Structural Engineering from University of Melbourne, Australia and a PhD degree from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. In the 20 years of experience, 6 solid years of progressively responsible supervisory, managerial and business development on construction and design projects. Academic since 2007, with research interest into structures and materials; onshore and offshore structure steel: integrity and reliability domain. To date has completed and currently managing numerous research projects (valued at RM1 Million) and industry projects (Valued at RM 80 Million) and published more than 40 research papers.
