CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Programmable logic controllers (PLC) is a heart of modern automation systems. The application ranges from electro-mechanical systems to large process plants. This course is directed at new users with engineering, computer sciences or applied sciences background with no prior knowledge of PLCs. The going to be trainers of PLCs in higher institutions will also find benefit by attending this course.

This course focuses mainly on the fundamental knowledge of PLC hardware and software features and program development for the first-time user. Through ‘learning-by-doing’, the participants should be able to develop a program and would be exposed to input and output devices wiring and programming software. Some selected practical exercises on problems solving will be provided.

COURSE CONTENT
  • Introduction to PLC hardware and programming.
  • Types of input/output devices, field devices and sensors.
  • Programming instructions, basic logic expressions. Hands –on experience on PLC programming for a simple traffic light systems.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • First-time users with engineering, computer sciences or applied sciences background with no prior knowledge of PLCs, technicians & going to be PLC trainers in institutions of higher learning

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify, assemble, and assign I/O in a PLC application.
  • Develop a PLC program using basic logic and timer functions.
  • Develop documentation of basic programming skill associated with PLC applications.
