COURSE SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Malaysia relied on surface water supply for plantation and industrial needs. This dependency has caused imbalance in the water availability over different periods of the year. There is plenty of water during the monsoon season which often causes floods and little water during the dry season. Almost a decade ago, Malaysia had sufficient water supply before the country suffered from a shortage of clean water for domestic usage recently. Due to the large surface water in the river system, groundwater is not widely exploited except in Kelantan. This is also because of the increasing of consumption and high-water demand exceeding the capacity of the river basin, especially in the escalation of development sectors and the growth trend of agricultural industries. In addition to the expansion of population density, water pollution issue also threatens the supply of clean water to certain areas and affecting the ecology.

OUR TRAINERS

1. Mr Muhammad Noor Amin Zakariah

MUHAMMAD NOOR AMIN ZAKARIAH joined the Department of Geosciences, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in May 2014. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences (Geology) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Malaysia. Then, he received a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Engineering Geophysics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) with a research on seismic interpretation. Before joining UTP, he worked as a site geologist at two engineering firms; IKRAM Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and Bumimetro Engineering Sdn. Bhd.His research interest is specifically on integrating geophysical methods for environmental assessment, mineral exploration, basin exploration and engineering issues. He uses to teach Seismic Methods, Seismic Data Processing, Rock Physics and Non-Seismic Methods at UTP. Currently, his research focus is on groundwater basin development by using geophysical methods for his PhD.
