Mr. Azhar is a Petroleum Geoscientist by profession. He is being seconded from PETRONAS Carigali to UTP Geoscience Dept as the Principal in May 2019. In his last position, he was the Head of Exploration Malaysia Venture until 2019 responsible for developing exploration strategy and executing exploration activities in Malaysia. Noor Azahar carrier span 29 years at PETRONAS allowing him to be involved in all aspects of exploration activities and its related Integrated E&P LOF business. Noor Azahar headed the PETRONAS Carigali Business Development Group for Malaysia and International Ventures (2013 - 2015) and later assume the role as PETRONAS Exploration PSC Regulator REX MPM (2015 to 2017).

Noor Azahar has worked in several of PETRONAS International exploration project worldwide pioneering Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd exploration activities in Syria, Tunisia, Sudan, Turkmenistan Azerbaijan, Gabon and Mexico to name some since 1993. He is passionate in exploration subjects, especially in creating exploration new ventures opportunities, driving worldwide regional petroleum system basin analysis, exploration prospect maturation, exploration/appraisal drillings and their commercialization.

He is also passionate in advocating “value driven” exploration projects subjects covering exploration entrepreneurship and strategic thinking from exploration block valuation / asset acquisition to monetization of HC discoveries.

In 2015/16 his team are instrumental in realizing & executing the 1st Malaysia Ultra Deep Water Multiclient Seismic Data Survey in offshore Sabah which is consider one of the world largest 3D surveys over 70’000 sq Km area which lead to the 1st Malaysia Ultra Deep-Water Oil & Gas discovery in in offshore Sabah in 2018.

In current position as principal lecturer he is currently conducting lectures and undertaking research and consultancy projects related to enhancing hydrocarbon prospectivity. Noor Azahar Ibrahim graduated from University Malaya in 1987 with 2nd Class Hons in Applied Geology.
