CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Systematic theoretical and laboratory study of physical properties of petroleum reservoir rocks; lithology, porosity, permeability, fluid saturations, capillary characteristics, and fluid-rock interaction. Also presents knowledge and skills in quantitative assessment of hydrocarbon using well logs.

COURSE CONTENT
  • Factors affecting porosity and permeability Measurements x
  • Electrical properties of reservoir rocks.
  • Laboratory measurement of different petrophysical properties
  • Subsurface measurement of shale volume, porosity, and saturation.
  • Evaluation of some formations using real case studies.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the factors which affect porosity/permeability and describe the methods of determining them.
  • Determine fluid saturations in reservoir rock and show relationship between fluid saturation and capillary pressure.
  • Assess shaly sand and complex formations by interpreting different well logs quantitatively.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Fresh graduates from other universities who are interested in Petrophysics.
  • Junior lecturers and oil and gas industry employees.
