CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This course focuses on the fundamentals of well logging techniques and petrophysical modeling. It also emphasizes on log reading and a mindful petrophysical settings. This course will be able to strengthen your confidence in log reading and basic analyses which helps in interpretation, reviewing or simply integrating logs in your daily work. This course is designed to give you a basic knowledge in the three main pillars in petrophysical log interpretation, which are:

  • The bits and bytes of wireline logs (data acquired)
  • Data integration (core, log, geological data)
  • Petrophysical theory and application

COURSE CONTENT

  • Basics of wireline logging
  • Basic petrophysical workflow
  • Archie’s concept and other saturation models
  • Porosity, permeability and saturation
  • Importance of facies
  • Quick-Look log analysis
  • Case study

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Full recognize definitions of terms to enhance understanding between people which leads directly to the definition of several petrophysical properties.
  • Differentiate between deterministic and probabilistic log interpretation.
  • Perform qualitative log interpretation from data quality control to the calculation of porosity, water saturation and permeability.
  • 'Intuitive' log reading and qualitative log interpretation.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Anyone interested in well logging techniques and petrophysical modeling.

OUR TRAINER

1. Dr. A K M Eahsanul Haque (UTP)

Dr A K M Eahsanul Haque with over 15 years of industry and research experience, joined the Geosciences Department, UTP in March 2022. Dr. Eahsan’s experience, especially in reservoir characterisation, 3D seismic sequence stratigraphy, 3D subsurface geomodeling, basin geodynamics and geoscience project management is extremely critical to enrich and develop geoscientific key areas for the Faculty of Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, UTP. He is also active in R&D and consultancy in the field of petroleum geosciences.

He has worked in several world-class oil/gas companies such as Chevron, Weatherford in which he played key roles as development geoscientist, well logging analyst, wellsite geologist etc. He also worked as project manager in several strategic projects in Bangladesh, Australia, USA, Thailand and in Brunei Darussalam. He started his career as a junior research fellow for Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO), Columbia University, USA in basin geodynamics and seismicity of the Bengal Basin international research project which was collaborated with Dhaka University and National Science Foundation (NSF), USA. He has collaborated with NASA’s Goddard Space Center during his earthquake research years back in 2007-2010. He also worked as geoscience advisor in developing geoscience training platform and digital platform for geoscience learning and solutions in Bangladesh.
