COURSE SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This course will expose the participants to the understanding and interpretations of discounted cash flow valuation, cost components of project evaluation, effects of inflation, methods of describing project risk, probability application for investment decision and probability distribution of NPW.

COURSE CONTENT
INTRODUCTION TO FORECASTING
  • Concepts of forecasting.
  • Tools and Techniques in Forecasting.
  • Forecasting an modeling.

TECHNIQUES & TOOLS

  • PW, FW, AW, CR, CC, perpetuity, growing perpetuity, arithmetic gradient.
  • Hands-on Interpretation of the tools discussed & discussion on the results (introducing excel).

APPLICATION & DECISION MAKING

  • Cash flow analysis.
  • Cash flow analysis with effects of inflation.
  • Rate of return analysis under inflation.
  • Methods to describe project risk.
  • Probability Distribution of NPW.
  • Decision on Mutually Exclusive alternatives.
  • Hands-on activities with case studies and exercises that cover calculations, interpretations and decision making.


OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • To describe the concepts, techniques and tools of project evaluation in business(Knowledge/Comprehension Level).
  • To apply the methods and techniques in project risk and uncertainty in investment decision(Application Level).

  • To interpret the findings and making the best investment decision (Analysis Level).

1. Associate Professor Dr Maran Marimuthu

To date, Dr Maran Marimuthu have graduated 10 Masters / 2 PhDs by research & coursework and another 7 PhD and 1 Masters Scholars will be completing soon. Published more than 100 international refereed journals (including Q1/Q2 ISI/SCOPUS journals) and conference proceedings (local and overseas). Co-authored books on Financial Management, International Finance and contributed articles for both local and international magazines. Served as a Trainer / Consultant in O&G industry including PETRONAS especially on socio-economic and cost analysis. Visited Norway, India, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Indonesia as Vising Scholar for academic and research collaboration. Currently holding internal and external research grants as Leader and Principal Researcher and offering short courses for industry and PG Scholars.
