CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Flow assurance is a critical multidisciplinary specialization that seeks to facilitate the smooth delivery of petroleum fluids from the reservoir at high pressure and low-temperature conditions, to the point of sale. This course will equip participants with the basic knowledge of flow assurance issues and their impacts on petroleum delivery and facilities. Moreover, the relevance of types of fluids, fluid sampling, PVT analysis, and multiphase flow will be presented. Specifically, wax precipitation, asphaltene flocculation, hydrate formation, corrosion, and oil/water emulsion will be treated. Furthermore, a case study of an actual field experience on wax deposition will be shared with the participants.

OUR TRAINER

1. Dr Aliyu Adebayo Sulaimon (UTP)

Dr. Sulaimon is a Chartered Petroleum Engineer and an academic with over 20 years working experience in academia as well as in the oil and gas industry. He obtained the bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Nigeria’s premier University of Ibadan in 1993.

He worked briefly as a Drilling Engineer Trainee with the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). In 2006, he joined the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) as a Researcher where he worked with teams to solve wax deposition challenges in several fields. In 2009, he obtained his PhD in Petroleum Engineering specializing in Flow Assurance. As an academic, he has taught several courses across all phases in Petroleum Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr Sulaimon has received several local, national, and international research grants and has successfully supervised many final year and graduate research projects with publications in top ranking journals and conference proceedings. He was awarded the best motivating lecturer in 2004, the best lecturer award in 2012, and the most resourceful award in 2019.He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
