INTRODUCTION
Global energy transition necessitates an in depth understanding of decarbonization and sustainable development. The course discusses global trends in energy transitioning which aims to provide the participants with an understanding of technical, financial and business related to energy transition. The course provides insights to the role of government, corporate, academics and end-users. This course critically provide a comprehensive review of the global energy scenario and strategies in facilitating energy transition. Participants will gain increased knowledge to develop strategic planning of the transition with consideration of new energy technologies and innovations in meeting energy consumption demands

1. Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew (UTP)
Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew has been practicing in the construction and offshore industries for 23 years. He is now the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (DVCRIC) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia. DVCRIC is in charge of the business development portfolio and catalyzing the research ecosystem for accelerated growth. He is a reviewer in many conferences and journals. He authored more than 350 refereed articles. He has more than 3,620 citations with 30 h-index as well as 83 i10-index.
Professor Shahir aspires for a better tomorrow in Malaysia through the approach of sustained growth in niche capabilities and high-end knowledge areas. He believes that these are crucial for the country to reach developed nation status and strongly advocates for the scientific and engineering communities to always add cutting-edge dimensions to their set of capabilities and competencies.
Professor Shahir, throughout his career, has spearheaded several strategic initiatives in the area of competency development, including being one of the pioneering groups in Malaysia to develop wind engineering competencies and was the Chairman of the National Standards MS1553 Wind Code in 1999. In this time in the Malaysian Oil and Gas Services Council (MOGSC), he has served as the Chairman of the Competency and Training Working Group identifying critical industry gaps in the oil and gas industry. He also served as the Honourary Secretary that led participation in the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) for the National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS) and Sectorial Training Committee (STC-17). He is also the Chairman of the Energy Institute Malaysia and is closely overseeing the development of niche professional accreditation tracks in Malaysia for engineers in the energy sector.
Ir. Prof Shahir had spent his earlier year in the United States conducting research with the Department of Defense under the Reagan’s Star Wars Policy. This includes design of Supercollider with EBASCO, testing of curtain wall under high pressure explosives at White Sands, assessment of the project Blackhawk on the terrain imaging system through stochastic processes of the now "tomahawk" cruise missile first deployed in Kuwait war, and also assessment of a variety weapon system through engineering principles. In Malaysia, Shahir had worked with British Aerospace (BAe) on several projects as well.
Professor Shahir graduated summe cum laude in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University (USA) in 1983 and subsequently fast-tracked towards the completion of his Ph.D in Civil Engineering in 1988 from the same alma mater.
2. Associate Professor Ts Dr Shahrina Md Nordin (UTP)
Associate Professor Dr Shahrina Md Nordin is the founding head of Centre of Social Innovation (COSI), UTP. She currently leads the committee for the University Social Responsibility on socio-economic development of the rural communities for poverty alleviation. She has been active in research, funded by government and corporate agencies at national and international levels. She was a project leader in socioeconomic impact studies of the oil and gas industry on local communities in Malaysia. Her work on social innovation was funded by MOSTI Social Innovation (MSI) fund under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Malaysia) and other agencies. Her active involvement with NGOs and various agencies has provided her not only with theoretical knowledge but also pragmatic and practical experience in communities’ development projects and social impact related studies. She is part of the founding members of the Malaysian Social Business Network. She is currently an active associate member of Academy of Sciences Malaysia. At the international front, she is an appointed reviewer by Research Council United Kingdom (RCUK She was appointed as Track Paper Review Chair, Social Business Academia Conference (SBAC), Paris and Germany 2017-2019. She was also given the opportunity to be a Plenary Speaker at SBAC, Germany. She recently was given the opportunity to lead an internationally funded research by British Council. She has published numerous papers in indexed journals. She has also authored a number books and was an editor for publications. She is currently an associate professor at the Management and Humanities Department, specializing in the areas of language and communications.
