CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
One of the most critical world environmental concern nowadays is the emission of greenhouse gas CO2 into the atmosphere due to its serious impact on global warming. Removal of CO2 from big gas streams before emitted to atmosphere is hence very essential. It is remained challenging to seek for highly effective technologies for CO2 separation as well as CO2 utilization. In addition, the selection of the types of materials is of utmost importance in ensuring the efficient CO2 separation and utilization. This course focusses on introduction of advanced materials that could be used in different technologies for CO2 separation and utilization. The emphasized advanced materials in this course including inorganic adsorbents for CO2 adsorption, inorganic membranes for CO2 separation, membrane gas absorber (MGA) for CO2 separation and utilization. After the completion of the course, the participants would learn about different forms of advanced materials that could be applied in different technologies for CO2 separation and utilization.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
The development of inorganic adsorbents for CO2 adsorption.
The prospect of inorganic membrane for CO2 separation.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
1. Dr.
Chew Thiam Leng (UTP)
Dr. Chew Thiam Leng is currently a senior lecturer in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). His research team focus on synthesis of advanced adsorbent materials and fabrication of variety types of membranes, including organic, inorganic and mixed matrix membranes. His expertise is on investigation on gas adsorption studies using different adsorbent materials and gas separation studies using different membranes. Dr. Chew Thiam Leng has more than 14 years research experience with h-index of 17.
2. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oh Pei Ching (UTP)
Dr. Oh Pei Ching has been working in areas of advanced materials development for CO2 separation and utilization for almost 10 years. Her work focuses on the synthesis of nanocomposite membranes and fibres using polymer, silica, graphene, carbon nanofibers, POSS, clay, AMH-3, and other organic/inorganic frameworks for gas separation in the oil and gas industry. Her current work involves material development for in-situ reaction and separation in acid gas removal unit (AGRU). To date, she has been granted 5 patents for her work, besides publishing more than 30 papers in these fields. She was selected by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia as one of the top young scientists in Malaysia to participate in the 60th Nobel Laureates Meeting in Lindau, Germany. She is currently an active core member of the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
