In this time in the Malaysian Oil and Gas Services Council (MOGSC), he has served as the Chairman of the Competency and Training Working Group identifying critical industry gaps in the oil and gas industry. His continued service as the Honourary Secretary has also seen his leading participation in the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) for the National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS) and Sectorial Training Committee (STC-17). He is also the current Fellow of the Energy Institute Malaysia and is closely overlooking the development of niche professional accreditation tracks in Malaysia for engineers in the energy sector.
Prof Ir Dr Shahir Liew graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering and Ph.D in Structural Dynamics. He is a Professional Engineer with the State of Texas and an Asean Engineer. In 2016, he became a Fellow Chartered Engineer (UK). After spending 23 years in the industry as consulting professional engineer in the USA and Asian countries, he joined UTP in 2009 as an Associate Professor. He has been the Head of Offshore Engineering Center since 2011, winning approximately RM8.5m research grants. He is currently active in engaging the industries, including Production Sharing Contractors and Tier 2 oil and gas companies. He has held several exco positions, nationally and internationally, with the NGOs and is instrumental in developing young engineers and researchers. He is committed to ensure the relevance of research and its application for the benefit of the industry and society as a whole.
