COURSE SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
Geosciences digital upskilling workforce is vital to increase efficiency in the Energy sector. This training covers an introduction about cloud computing and Geoscience knowledge applications which enable to rule new big data analytic solutions to handle geophysical and geological data at the sametime.
Data Analytics applied in Geosciences will help to apply automated techniques and solutions for analytics and visualization of geology and geophysical data. Currently many O&G international companies and disciplines have embarked on the road of digital transformation. Geosciences should embrace new technology tools to reshape their operating and analytical landscape to increase efficiency and implement cost saving.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Perform the basic routine of seismic data processing & imaging usingthe MATLAB programme.
Perform the basic routine of rock physics workflow for lithology and pore fluid analysis using python cloud-based computing.
Better understanding of depositional environment and reservoir quality.
Understand the conceptual reservoir model.
Outline and choose the appropriate method for seismic attribute extraction.
Understand the formation and characterization of the mainsedimentary facies and perform independent facies analysis.
1. Dr Mirza Arshad Beg (UTP)
Dr Abdul Halim is currently leading the Centre for Subsurface Imaging (CSI), an oil and gas industry-oriented research centre in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). He obtained his, MSc and Doctorate from Imperial College, UTP and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) respectively with special interest in seismic technology and deep-earth seismology. His main area of expertise is in seismic processing and imaging, both for active and passive seismic (including earthquake seismology). With several years as an industry practitioner with CGG Malaysia as well as researcher and academician with UTP, Halim is on a mission to spread the knowledge in geosciences and nurturing more earth scientist for a sustainable and better future.
3. Dr Luluan Almanna (UTP)
Dr Luluan Almanna completed his Doctorate M.Sc. in Petroleum Geosciences (By Research) from UTP, Malaysia and he worked and acquired geophysical data measurements at several places in Indonesia, Bandung, Jakarta, East Java, Bali, Sulawesi and Kalimantan. In 2013, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Geosciences Department. Dr Luluan, is a full time researcher in the Centre Of Seismic Imaging (CSI) at UTP, where the Centre collaborate well with PETRONAS and PETRONAS Research. He joined the department of Geosciences UTP in August 2013. His research interest is on implementing theoretical, empirical, experimental and computational Rock Physics for reservoir quantitative interpretation.
Dr Abdul Hadi is currently working as Basin Study Technical Advisor in MPM, PETRONAS. He has previously served UTP as an Associate Professor in Geoscience Department at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. Dr Abdul Hadi has thirty (30) years of experience in university work in teaching and training physical geology, petroleum geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy (and sequence stratigraphy), field sedimentary geology, well log analysis and petrographic analysis of clastic sedimentary rocks. He also has more than twenty (20) years O&G industry experience in research and consultation work on siliciclastic sedimentology and facies analysis, well log analysis, thin section and SEM microscopic study, and regional geological studies.
5. Dr Mohamed ElSaadany (UTP)
Dr Mohamed ElSaadany is a well rounded geo-scientist with 29+ years of multi-disciplinary experience in both Upstream exploration and production. Main skills are play based exploration, portfolio & prospect maturation, near field exploration / development, operational execution, coordination of geophysical / geological input to Field Development Plans, structural analysis / tectonic evolution and seismic interpretation (2D & 3D volume interpretation). He was a Principal in Reservoir Geophysics for Petronas with main responsibilities of leading field development plans and exploration prospect evaluation in Malaysia as well as international concessions.
Dr Nordin Zakaria is a senior lecturer with the Computer and Information Science Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Malaysia. He has been with UTP for more than 10 years. Prior to that, he was a researcher in Max-Planck-Institut fur Informatik,Germany, and a lecturer in Universiti Putra Malaysia. Dr Nordin Zakaria earned his PhD in Computer Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia, working in the area of Computer gaphics. His interest over the years has been diverse, ranging from user interface design to computational engineering. The main theme in his research has however been always metaheuristics methods, especially genetic algorithm, dealing with various computational problems in various domains.
7. Dr Lukman (UTP)
Dr Lukman is currently working as a Senior Lecture in Computer and Information Science department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He completed his PhD at Lancaster University. His current research interest is in formal serification, software and system modelling, and software architecture. Currently, his research is foc using in particular with adopting model-driven engineering and formal verification in cloud computing. Some of the projects he is working on right now are using architecture-driven modernization and model-driven engineering in deploying engineering simulation software as a cloud service, formal verification of cloud security mechanism using model checking, domain specific modelling languages for educational games. Apart from these projects, he is also involved in research projects related to system engineering and Big Data.
