CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This course covers the fundamental concept of pipeline designs. Details will be given to offshore pipelines.  Several design codes and standards of the offshore and onshore will be compared.  The scope of the course is further elaborated into the knowledge of pipeline construction, route selection and installation methods.  Challenges and problems associated with pipeline operations will be presented and concluded with some recent technologies applied to overcome such challenges.

Fundamental designs of oil and gas pipeline

  • Design of wall thickness
  • Comparison between design codes for the oil and gas pipeline 
  • Brief overviews on the design considerations for spanning, cathodic protection, stability etc.

Achievement of  science and technology for oil and gas pipeline

  • Development in the technology of composite pipelines in the design and repair of pipes
  • Overview on the RAPID Pengerang, Malaysia

1. Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Zahiraniza Mustaffa (UTP)

Ir. Dr. Zahiraniza Mustaffa is an Associate Professor with a Professional Engineer title at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS for more than 15 years. She obtained her PhD majoring in Pipeline Reliability from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands (2011), Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering, from the University of Alberta, Canada (2003) and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Civil Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2000).   Dr. Zahira specializes in the field of pipeline engineering covering the aspects of probabilistic structural designs.  Her research capability in the pipeline engineering field is portrayed through the cumulative research grant values of over RM 2 mil. secured from various international, national and consultancy resources.  Dr. Zahira received numerous research product awards obtained through various competitions at international and national exhibitions since 2014.  Her products have been submitted for intellectual properties submissions through patent, industrial designs as well as copyrights. She is currently a committee member of the Women Engineers Section of the Institute of Engineers (IEM), Malaysia. She is a Chartered Engineer of the Engineering Council, UK, Member of Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM), Member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM), Member of Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
