CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is the prevailing framework for evaluation of the environmental consequences of products, services, and energy systems. LCA allows for consistent comparisons of alternate system designs with respect their environmental performance. This course provides an introduction to the LCA framework. Firstly, methodological essentials of LCA are introduced which involves the mathematical structure of LCA, application of LCA and case studies for different assessment. While the second part focuses on the hands-on experience that utilise SIMAPRO / GaBi software and also on the way forward in sustainability with LCA.

COURSE CONTENT

Part 1: Life Cycle Thinking and Value to Business

  • Introduction of Life Cycle Thinking
  • LCA value to business

Part 2: Methodology on Life Cycle Assessment

  • LCA Methodology with ISO 14040
  • Detailed walkthrough of LCA case studies

Part 3: Practical Session – LCA Modelling

  • Hands-on session in developing a LCA model
