CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
The main objective of this course is to develop understanding on the fundamental principles in coastal engineering. This course introduces the fundamental principles on coastal engineering covering wave theories, wave transformations, design wave specifications, tides, currents, nearshore sediment transports and coastal morphology. This course involves interactive discussions, sharing of exciting examples and case studies for enhanced understanding and appreciation towards the subject.

1. Dr Teh Hee Min (UTP)
Dr Teh Hee Min was born in Sungai Siput Utara, Perak, Malaysia. He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering in 2000. He further pursued a Master’s degree in coastal and maritime engineering and graduated from the same university in 2003. He was then awarded a PhD in coastal engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2013. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. His main research interests are hydrodynamics of coastal structures, wave and storm surge modelling, renewable wave energy and physical modeling. Dr. Teh secured 13 international, national and internal research grants amounting to a total of about RM1.27 million. He owns an IP of a floating breakwater design that won him several international awards. He published more than 60 journals and conference articles. He is also the reviewers of a number of international journals and research proposals. He is the IMarEST Chartered Engineer since 2013.
2. Ir. Nik Abdullah Mu’az bin Nik Mohd Kamel
Coastal Engineering, Coastal Protection, Dredging and Reclamation works). He was responsible for the successful completion of a number of key signature projects locally and internationally. He assumed the position of General Manager of marine construction company Tidalmarine Engineeing Sdn Bhd in 2011 and as a Director for a specialised marine engineering consultancy firm Dr. Nik & associates Sdn Bhd in 2015. He brings over several years experience in the local & international construction and marine industry. He was involved in several major project namely Projek Pembinaan Kompleks KDN Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Istana Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Fujairah Reclamation Works, Hotel JAL Fujairah Resort and Spa Marine Works Mina Al Fajer Breakwater, Vopak Horizon Fujairah Limited Oil Jetty Construction Works, UAE, Land Reclamation Project, Coastal Protection Structure and Associated Marine for Phase 1 and Phase 2 at Tanjong Tokong, Penang, Runaway Extension for Kuala Terengganu Airport, Terengganu, Expansion of North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) Project, Penang and Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johore. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He completed his Masters of Engineering in Coastal Engineering and Port Development from UNESCO-IHE Delft in The Netherlands. He obtained the Master of Science in Hydraulic Engineering and holds a title ingenieur (ir) from the University of Technology (TUDelft) in the Netherlands. His experience involved both in operation and technical divisions and has extensive technical knowledge in coastal engineering, port development, dredging & land reclamation and marine related experience. He was previously responsible in providing technical seminars to the Public Works Department (PWD) and Department of Irrigation & Drainage (DID) and currently as an adjunct lecturer in University of Petronas, Tronoh, Perak. He provides leadership and guidance in developing technical strategies to identify possibilities and viability of project towards meeting the company's profitability and objectives. He is an associate committee member of the Malaysian Branch Rina-IMarEST, UK 2019/2020, member of Institute of Engineers Australia, Royal Institute of Engineers, The Netherlands and Graduate Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
