CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Climate change has emerged as one of the most critical global challenges of our time. Its wide-ranging and often severe impacts on the environment and biodiversity are now impossible to ignore. This course is designed for beginners to provide a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationships between climate change and the natural world, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to address these profound challenges.

This course provides an in-depth exploration of climate change and its far-reaching impacts, covering three key areas:

1) Understanding Climate Change

2) Climate Change on the Environment and Biodiversity

3) Climate Change's Impact on Society and the Energy Industry

OUR TRAINERS

1. Associate Professor Dr Satirenjit Kaur Johl (UTP)

Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl is currently an Associate Professor at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. Currently she holds the position as the Postgraduate Leader for Management Studies by Research. Prior, she was attached with Universiti Utara Malaysia. AP Dr. Johl has also served IBM and Boustead Holdings. She obtained her Doctorate in Philosophy (Business) from University of Nottingham, U.K, and Master’s in Management Science from Universiti Utara Malaysia. She is a certified trainer from the Institute of Personnel and Development, U.K and HRDF Malaysia. She conducts training and consultancy projects for PETRONAS and several other companies. She supervises PhD and Master students in the areas of Strategic Management, Sustainability, Entrepreneurship and Corporate Governance. She has successfully graduated 8 PhD students and 4 Masters students. AP Dr. Johl is actively involved in research and has received several national grants from Ministry of Higher Education, PETRONAS and international research grants from Japan (Murata) and Indonesia.

Dr. Johl has vastly published books and journal papers in reputable international journals. She has received several awards from international bodies, including Best Dissertation from the British Aerospace and Loughborough University, U.K., and the Hariram Jayaran Special Award and Gold Award in the 23rd International Invention Innovation & Technology Exhibition. She has obtained best journal publication award from UTP, silver award for her innovation on ecoDRIVEx: Driving Firms Towards Smart Eco-solutions in the SDG International Innovation Awards 2022 Malaysian Teknology EXPO (MTE).

2. Associate Professor Dr. Poon Wai Ching (UTP)

Dr. POON Wai Ching is a Senior Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. She holds various esteemed positions, including Honorary Secretary of the MFA and editorial board roles at prominent journals (e.g., Corporate Governance: An International Review). Her research interests span social economics, financial economics, sustainable development, and education. Notable publications can be found in prestigious journals (e.g., Energy Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, International Business Review, etc.). Her track record in supervising Master's and PhD students until their successful completion is commendable. She is recognized among Malaysia's top 25% of economists by RePEc. She also conducts industry short courses and provides consultancy services to the Institute for Development Studies. She is a certified trainer from HRDF Malaysia.

3. Associate Professor Dr Lawrence Arokiasamy (UTP)

Dr Lawrence Arokiasamy is an Associate Professor, Management and Humanities Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Malaysia. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Malaya, Malaysia in 1999 and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development from University Putra Malaysia in 2003. Then, he obtained his PhD from University Putra Malaysia in 2011.

He involves actively in research that encompasses the areas of applied and basic research on academician’s career development and cyber entrepreneurship among business students in private higher education. He has published more than 100 journal and conference papers. He was also awarded the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia (2010). He was appointed as a paper reviewer for World Applied Sciences Journal (Scopus indexed). He has also been appointed as an external examiner for PhD VIVA for a selected public and private university in Malaysia and Oversea. He is the Editorial Board for American Research Institute for Policy Development for the Journal of Human Resource Management and Labor Studies.
