CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) is one of the carbon negative technologies which play a vital role to to limiting climate change to well below 2ºC of global temperature rise. This introductory course explores the concept and application of CCS as a main solution to protect our atmosphere from the anthropogenic CO2 gas, in the context of global economy, energy applications, and and a desirable outcome for climate change. Different concept of engineering, geology, economics, law and policy will be covered throughout this course. The activities and discussions in the course will help to unlock the carbon negative solutions to achieve a neutral carbon balance to the atmosphere in the 21st century.

OUR TRAINERS

1. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Md Yusof (UTP)

Muhammad Aslam obtained a BEng in Petroleum Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Perak, Malaysia and MEngSc in Petroleum Engineering from University of New South Wales, Australia. He is currently working as a researcher/lecturer in in Department of Petroleum Engineering at UTP. His PhD work in Petroleum Engineering from UTP is focusing on formation damage during CO2 injection for sequestration. He has about than 10 years of experience in research and as well as in Academic. Currently, a member of the Centre of Research in Enhanced Oil recovery (COREOR), Institute of Hydrocarbon Recovery, UTP which effectively provide consultancy, professional training and focus research on formation damage, carbon sequestration and drilling fluid.

2. Nur Asyraf Md Akhir (UTP)

Nur Asyraf Md Akhir is currently working as a lecturer and researcher at Petroleum Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Perak, Malaysia. She attained her MSc in Petroleum Engineering from UTP-Heriot-Watt University and BEng in Chemical Engineering from UTP. She currently pursues her PhD study on the usage of sacrificial agent in reducing surfactant adsorption for Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) in Petroleum Engineering, UTP. She has 8 years of experience in teaching and research. She has completed a few internal, national, and industrial research projects on the nanoparticles-foam, surfactant-based chemical for conventional and unconventional reservoirs. Her research interests are in surfactant-based EOR, surfactant adsorption, and chemical sand consolidation.
