CONTENT SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
This course is intended to provide an overview of performing composite analysis using Altair Finite Element Programs. The software program for preprocessing (model building) is HyperMesh, for Postprocessing (results visualization) HyperView is used; analysis is based on OptiStruct.
This is a theoretical and practical course that covers all design steps for systems manufactured with composite materials. It covers the introduction to composite materials and fundamentals related to analysis basics which include composite designable material properties, understanding composite material properties and failure theories of composite lamina. The content on finite element modeling includes composite pre-procesing, material types, materials and element orientation, types of laminates in Hypermesh and various composite modeling methods. In addition, composite post-processing is explained.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify composite material definitions
2. Define laminated plate theory
3. Build composite structures (pre-processing) using Altair HyperMesh
4. Conduct analysis on composite structures using Altair OptiStruct
5. Visualize results (post-processing) using Altair HyperView
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Researchers
and consultants in composite materials (especially laminated composites).
1. Dr.
Nabihah Sallih (UTP)
Dr. Nabihah Sallih is a lecturer at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). She completed her Bachelor of Engineering (1st class honours) at The University of Auckland, New Zealand and obtained her PhD from the Centre for Advanced Composite Materials, The University of Auckland in 2016. She is one of the technical experts in Altair-UTP Centre of Excellence and key figure in Surface Science and Materials (SSMAT) Nexus. Her areas of research interest include polymeric-based composites and vibration of piping using both experimentation and computational modeling.
