CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This course will provide the participants with strong background about Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology in general. It will also allow them to have a deep exposure to the most recent and advanced techniques that involve nanotechnology in oil & gas production for conventional and unconventional reservoirs. (patents, published work, and on-going projects on oil & gas applications will be presented and explained)

COURSE CONTENT

This course will focus on the utilization of Nanotechnology in Enhance Oil Recovery (EOR) for Conventional Reservoirs. Participants will learn about the different types of nanomaterials that have been used to improve the EOR and the recommended ones among them. They will also have a close exposure the most Advanced Production Engineering that involved utilization of Nanotechnology.
  • Nanoparticles for Wettability Alteration (SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, TiO2, Fe2O3),
  • Oil/Water Interfacial Tension (IFT)
  • Nano-additives for Foam Stability (SiO2, Fe2O3)
  • Nanoparticles in Core Flooding Tests
  • Nanoparticle treated FR for Improved Fines Migration Control
  • Carbon Nano-additives Coated FR for Improved Adsorption Ability of Scale and Corrosion Inhibitors.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • The oil and gas industry is facing difficult challenges as it tries to supply the increasing energy demands of a growing population. Conventional and unconventional resources with the current production techniques might not be sufficient to attend to this demand. Due to its unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties, nanomaterials and nanocomposites hold promising solutions to these challenges. This course will offer the participants the opportunity to expose to the most advanced and cutting-edge techniques and utilization of nanotechnology in oil & gas production in various types of resources namely conventional and unconventional reservoirs.
