CONTENT SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

The course addresses a broad array of vital topics, such as Theory of stresses and strains. Conservative laws. Constitutive modeling. Linear elasticity. Solutions of plane problems. Solutions using potentials. Energy methods. Introduction to finite deformation, plasticity, stability, vibration, and wave propagation. Application to thick cylinders, curved beams, beams on elastic foundations, torsion of non-circular cross-sections, stress concentration problems, Hertzian contact stresses., practical aspects of fatigue in engineering materials, theories of fatigue, failure of materials under cyclic loading, practical aspects of creep deformation. application of fracture mechanics to engineering applications, and the physics of fracture and fracture mechanics.

1. Dr Ahmad Mahamad Al-Yacouby (UTP)

Dr Ahmad Mahamad Al-Yacouby is a Lecturer at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia.  Dr Al-Yacouby has over 17 years of professional structural engineering experience as academic, researcher and practitioner engineer in various parts of the world.  With research interest in offshore structures, subsea technology, wave hydrodynamics, Vortex Induced Vibrations and New Energy (Floating Solar Farm).  To date has completed and currently managing numerous research projects and industry projects executed at the capacity of Project Manager, Resident Engineer or Lead Project Engineer Positions.  Dr Al-Yacouby is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), and member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Graduate Member of Institution of Civil Engineers, ICE(UK), and Corporate Member of Concrete Society Malaysia (CSM).
