Content Summary
Background
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is an important technique to characterize a molecule. Nuclei absorbs and reemits radiation when exposed to a magnetic field. This results in a frequency change which is characteristic of the magnetic field at the nucleus.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the underlying mechanism behind the operations of NMR Spectroscopy
- Comprehend the practical aspects of NMR Spectroscopy sample preparation
- Utilize a wide variety of NMR experiments to aid in their respective research areas

Trainers
Dr Cecilia Devi Wilfred is a Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS with more than 18 years of research experience and 4 years’ experience in industry. She obtained her PhD in Organic Chemistry from University of York in 2004. She is a Charted Chemist with Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and a member of Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM). Most of her projects involve the use of NMR Spectroscopy for molecular structure elucidation. She has delivered talks related to her research areas as Plenary, Keynote and Invited Speakers to several public and private organizations in Ionic Liquids research.
Mr M Faisal Taha (UTP)
Mr M Faisal Taha is a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS with more than 10 years experience in research activities. He is actively involved in green chemistry in areas of designing new ionic liquids. He has applied NMR spectroscopy in the structure elucidation.
